IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME, DANG IT!!!!

I really didn't want to get "political" in my Christmas blog; just wanted to give some "history" on certain Christmas traditions, etc., and most of all (which I haven't got around to yet), share some lesser known information on the REAL Christmas story. However, I just could not let this pass...

MONDAY, DEC. 19, 2011-I was just driving to the store and heard on the radio how much a success the "winter holiday" drunk driving stake out was over the weekend. Are you kidding me? "Winter Holiday"???????? I'm getting sick of hearing about the "winter holiday"! It is CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!! We wouldn't even be celebrating a "winter holiday" if it wasn't for Chrsitmas! And I'm sick and tired of people being afraid to say "...Merry Christmas" because they are afraid they will offend someone. Well, I AM OFFENDED!!! It's okay for any other religion to have their sayings, celebrations, etc. But God forbid that we Christians try to have ours! It's okay for people to burn our flag, and use upside down crucifixes in urine as Christmas tree decorations, because that is their "first amendment right to free speech". Well, where's my first amendment right to free speech? Why should I ever have to be afraid of offending someone when I say "Merry Christmas?" And why do I have to be "considerate" wherever it is I choose to say it? And where is the American's right to celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday.? The first amendment says this: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. " The government prohibits the free exercise of religion (the Christian religion that is) whenever public schools no longer have "Christmas" parties or "Christmas" programs", and when the manger scene cannot be displayed at government buildings. (There is still discrepency even if other "religious" representations are included). I mean, come on!! It is CHRISTMAS TIME people! We have the "holiday" because we are celebrating the birth of a special person, not the birth of "winter". His name is Jesus, and He was (and still is for anyone who will receive Him) the best Christmas present that was ever given! God the Father gave Him to us so that "whoever believes in Him will have eternal life! (John 3:16) So come one people. Don't be afraid to say it...SAY IT!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS! MERRY CHRISTMAS! and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

The Twelve Days of Christmas-the Christmas carol

Everyone has heard the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” But did you know that those silly , fun lyrics may have held special meaning for Catholics in England from 1535 to 1829?
Beginning under the rule of King Henry the VIII, under the Act of Supremacy, or the Statute of 1535, he declared himself to be head of the Church, thereby transferring to himself all authority over the Church in England previously exercised solely by the Pope. His daughter, Queen Elizabeth I, in 1559 abolished Catholicism by statute and replaced it with Anglicanism, thus making it a crime essentially to be Catholic, whereby the performance of Catholic rites could only be performed by “stealth, and at the risk of severe punishment.” (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05445a.htm) However,  in 1829 the English Parliament brought an end to the ban on Catholicism, and eased the persecution.
By now you must be wondering how the words of the Christmas carol fits in with this. It was during this time of Catholic suppression and persecution that the carol was believed to be written in order to help young Catholics learn the tenants of their faith. Thus, each verse carries special religious connotation.
ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE...
The “true love” mentioned in the song refers to God Himself, and not an earthly suitor. The “me” who receives the gifts refers to every baptized person. The “partridge in a pear tree” is Jesus. He is symbolically represented as a mother partridge who feigns injury to decoy predators from her helpless nestlings, in memory of Jesus’ expression of sadness over the fate of Jerusalem
 (Luke 13:34)
ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, TWO TURLE DOVES
The Old and New Testaments, which together bear witness to God’s self revelation and plan of salvation for the world.
ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, THREE FRENCH HENS
These stand for the virtues of FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE (I Corinthians 13:13)
ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, FOUR CALLING BIRDS
These are the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, which tell the story of Jesus and the God’s plan to reconcile the world to Himself through Him

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, FIVE GOLDEN RINGS
These are the first five books of the Old Testament, known as the Torah or Pentateuch, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, SIX GEESE A LAYING
This stands for the six days of creation
ON THE SEVEN DAYS OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING
The swans represent the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: Prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhortation, giving, leading and compassion (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:8-11)
ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, EIGHT MAIDS A-MILKING
These are the eight Beatitudes: (1) Blessed are the poor in spirit, (2) Blessed are those who mourn, (3) Blessed are the meek, (4) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, (5) Blessed are the merciful, (6) Blessed are the pure in heart, (7) Blessed are the peacemakers, (8) Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake (Matthew 5:3-10)
ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, NINE LADIES DANCING
These are the nine Fruit of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control. (Galatians 5:22)
ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, TEN LORDS A LEAPING
These are the ten commandments: (1) You shall have no other gods before me, (2) Do make any graven images of anything in heaven or on earth, (3) Do not take God’s name in vain, (4) Remember the Sabbath Day, (5) Honor your father and mother, (6) Do no murder, (7) Do not commit adultery, (8) Do not steal, (9) Do not bear false witness, (10) Do not covet (Exodus 20:1-17)
ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, ELEVEN PIPERS PIPING
These are the eleven faithful apostles: Simon Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James bar Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and James bar James.
ON THE 12TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, TWELVE DRUMMERS DRUMMING
These are the twelve points of the doctrine in the Apostles’ Creed:
  1. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth;
  2. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
  3. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary
  4. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into the grave.
  5. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  6. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
  7. I believe in the Holy Spirit and
  8. the holy catholic church,
  9. the communion of saints
  10. the forgiveness of sins
  11. the resurrection of the body
  12.   and life everlasting
Hope you enjoyed this! If you didn’t know this already, I bet you’ll never “hear” the Christmas carol the same, ever again!
Until tomorrow!

To Lolita...

I first of all dedicate this blog site to the Lord Jesus. He is the One who has laid this endeavor on my heart, so I'm happy to be used by Him.

Secondly, I dedicate this blog site to my dearest friend Lolita, who went to be with the Lord about 2 1/2 years ago. She always wanted me to write! Now I'm not the greatest writer, but I do enjoy it. So Lolita, here goes!

The Legend of the Candy Cane

Legend has it that a candy maker in Indiana wanted to make a special Christmas candy that would serve as a witness to his Christian faith. From this desire the candy cane was born!

  • He first began with a hard, white candy. The hardness was to symbolize the solidness of the foundation of the church and the rock solid certainty of God's promises.
  • The candy was white to symbolize the Virgin Birth of Jesus, as well as His pure, sinless nature.
  • Three thin red stripes were added to symbolize the scourging Jesus received prior to His crucifixion, and that "by His stripes, we are healed". [Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24] Healed from sin that is. The thicker red stripe symbolizes the blood He shed in His sacrificial death on the cross in order to provide forgiveness of sin and salvation to all who believe.
  • The candy maker added a "crook" so that it resembled a shepherd's staff, because Jesus is the Good Shepherd. [John 10:11] If you turn it upside down it is a "J" which, of course, stands for Jesus.
  • The candy cane's flavor is mint, which is very similar to hyssop. Hyssop, in Old Testament Times, often symbolized purification and sacrifice.

Whether or not the legend is true is not the main point; the symbolism that has come to be associated with the candy cane is.

In the hustle and bustle of your Christmas season, please don't forget the Person who is the "Reason for the Season!"
